musing six

Six degrees of separation between myself and any other person on the planet. It's an interesting concept to play with, as is the complex web of interactions between those people and how what I do potentially effects an exponentially increasing number of people. It also makes me glad I don't deal with the general populous on a regular basis they way I did when I was still working in retail hell (aka "one hour photo").

Cause and effect, cause and effect... The intricacies are fascinating, especially considering the lives we waltz in and out of, brush up against barely in the course of a typical week. During a quick grocery store trip alone it's possible to interact in some way with a half a dozen people. Smile at the guy behind the meats counter, cut off someone pushing a full shopping cart accidentally, let someone else have the last pint of dulce de leche ice cream... Any of that could affect the way that person interacts with a number of someone elses, each of whom interacted with more people in a manner potentially determined by the actions of that stranger connecting the two of you. Not to mention the possibilities for the far reaching effects of those whose lives we truly impact...

Musings inspired by a commerical for a new ABC show while watching Grey's Anatomy reruns. TV is supposed to keep you from thinking...not provide fodder for my overactive imagination. The show looks like it might be good, and it's in the right time slot, immediately after Greys on Thursday nights, but it may very well still be one of those fabulous shows the network cuts even though it's fantastic because there aren't enough literal explosions to garner a large audience immediately. Beware of becoming attached too quickly...
